ChildLife Foundation provides children in Pakistan with access to lifesaving care by rehabilitating and managing the children’s ERs of tertiary care government hospitals and running Telemedicine Satellite Centers (TSCs) in secondary care government hospitals. Reducing preventable child mortality is at the heart of ChildLife’s mission. To achieve this, the organization is strengthening Pakistan’s system of pediatric emergency services in direct collaboration with provincial governments.Â
Why Rippleworks Invested:
A global study conducted in 19 countries by the University of California (and published in the Lancet Global Health) reported a 1.2% mortality rate for critically ill children in two of ChildLife’s busiest ERs. The rate is comparable to the mortality rate at top private hospitals in Pakistan (1.4%). A Stanford study in 2013 (the first large-scale pediatric emergency medicine study in Pakistan) showed a baseline mortality rate of 12.7% at ChildLife’s first pediatric ER. A $3M grant will support ChildLife’s expansion into a hard-to-fund region of Pakistan.
